All things Golden Smoothie! – a delicious treat for a hot day!

It’s become really hot here in Los Angeles. Where I am in Marina del Rey it’s a little more bearable, but let’s just say that the fan hasn’t stopped working thins last week 😉

So to celebrate this massive heat wave and the golden sun I have created a new recipe I lovingly refer to as
All things Golden Smoothie 🙂

It doesn’t actually combine all yellow fruits and veggies under the sun (pardon the pun)
– (pardon the rhyme!)
It combines my favorite raw golden treats!

– First I start by brewing up some hot water for a large cup of Yerba Mate tea. I put about two tablespoons worth of loose leaf Yerba mate in a cup and pour the water over, letting it steep until it’s no longer hot.
– I add 1 tsp of raw organic local honey and stir until it’s dissolved
– I pour the sweetened tea into my bullet blender
– I add two cups worth of cubed pineapple, fresh. (It’s way more flavorful if you use fresh pineapple versus the frozen variety.)
– I add a whole ripe organic mango, cubed.
– finally I top it off with a heaping tbsp of organic local bee pollen
– and 4 deliciously refreshing ice cubes

Blend till everything is homogenized, and the texture should be creamy. This will ensure that the pollen has broken down to its tiniest form for easy absorption.

And then I kick back and enjoy! And I hope you will too!

To your health,
Irina 🙂

Why I used these ingredients:

MANGO: antioxidant rich compounds include quercetin, isoquercitrin, astragalin, fisetin, gallic acid and methylgallat, as well as the abundant enzymes that help prevent cancer, aid in digestion, help elimination of toxins and waste, including clearing up skin. Over 25 carotenoids and lots of Vit C, makes it great for your eyes and boosts the immune system. It’s also low glycemic so it’s good for helping fight diabetes, plus it alkalizes the whole body setting it all into balance 🙂 did I mention it increases your sex drive? But shhh, let’s not get carried away 😉

PINEAPPLE: this one is chock full of vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium which help agains colds and boost immune system. It’s an anti-inflammatory so it helps with arthritis, or the prevention of it. Plentiful in bromelain, pineapples help the secretions in the pancreas to break down food so it also aids digestion. If you consume a cup of pineapple, you can already get 73 percent of your total body requirement for manganese. And as if it wasn’t pretty enough to look at it’s also good for our eye health due to it’s rich content of beta carotene!

BEE POLLEN: this superfood is just amazing, and there are SOO many reasons you should be supplementing with this on a daily basis that I could write a whole book on it, so I’ll spare you the 100’s of pages and pick my favorite reason: fights allergies – Pollen reduces the presence of histamine, ameliorating many allergies. Dr. Leo Conway, M.D of Denver Colorado, reported that 94 percent of his patients were completely free from allergy symptoms once treated with oral feeding of pollen. Everything from asthma to allergies to sinus problems were cleared, confirming that bee pollen is wonderfully effective against a wide range of respiratory diseases.
I mention this because it seems that lately everyone is complaining of allergies, and we could all use a little natural remedy to strengthen ourselves against this weakening of our immune system. I highly recommend local pollen which will help with allergens that are closest to you and most likely to affect you.

YERBA MATE: 90% more antioxidants than green tea, plus vitamins, minerals and amino acids. It energizes you like coffee but doesn’t cause any of the uncomfortable side effects associated with drinking caffeinated beverages due to a balancing effect caused by an abundance of poly phenols. This tea makes a great base for the drink, making it vegan friendly. (Unless bee pollen goes agains vegan rules ?… :/ I’m afraid I’m not well versed on all that, as I love my raw milk products, green grass fed organic meats and golden eggs! )

HONEY: this gorgeousness of delicious angelic bee goodness needs no introduction. Thank GOD for bees! They make a superfood that lasts forever! If that’s not a perfect food then I don’t know what is! It boosts memory, soothes throats and coughs, and heals wounds due to it’s bacteria killing properties. Which goes further to mean that it can help kill bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics! It helps agains seasonal allergies, just like BEE POLLEN above. It’s got a wide array of vitamins and minerals, including niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc. And whaaaat!! Helps dandruff and heals scalp skin lesions? Eew… but yes! Look it up: honey is hygroscopic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and has remarkable debriding action.
All in all, honey is PERFECT!
Put it on everything, take a tsp of it daily!
