Toxin Free America – Toxic house-hold cleaners Pt.1

It’s amazing to me how many cleaning products the average household home has. You’ve got bleach to disinfect with, comet cleaner, also for disinfecting, lysol, ajax, pledge, windex – all for disinfecting and cleaning, and unfortunately the list goes on.

common household 'cleaners' full of toxins

Most people use these products thinking that they will be getting rid of the average mess plus bacteria, germs, and viruses. But all of these “cleaners” are dumping toxins, toxins and more toxins in toxic amounts on your “clean” surfaces.

Your hands, clothes, utensils and all come into contact with these chemicals, not to mention that you are breathing them in regularly since they are in your home!!

So do you know what you are breathing in? Do you know what you are putting on your countertops, your sink, your toilet, your clothes, and your body?

The answer is obvious: toxins. You are opening your home and your body to cancer-causing chemicals in the air, asthma attacks from fumes or serious skin burns from an accidental spill, damage to red blood cells, damage to unborn children and much more…

comet - 146 toxins with formaldehyde and tualene among others

Most people know of Comet, but did you know the EWG (Environmental Working Group) found that this “disinfectant cleansing powder” emitted 146 different chemicals, including some thought to cause cancer, asthma and reproductive disorders??  The most toxic chemicals detected – formaldehyde, benzene, chloroform and tolueneare not listed on the label!!!

Little is known about the health risks of most of the contaminants found.

That means that you are on your own. If you buy these products, or use these products, you are exposing yourself intimately to lots of deadly contaminants and toxins that build up in your body over time, many of them the body cannot even get rid off at a fast rate, and many of them accumulate to such a degree that they cause irreversible damage to you and your family.

Most people feel frustrated by this point.

What are we supposed to do now? It’s annoying that we can’t just trust these common products to have our best interests at heart, it’s frustrating that we have to go out of our way to research and research and discover what products are NOT going to kill us! I hear you… It’s extremely disappointing that this is and has been happening, and will continue to happen. But we CAN do something about it!!

It’s our JOB to do the research and be informed when it comes to making purchasing decisions.

Don’t buy toxic products!!

If that is the only protest we make, that is the GREATEST protest we can make. After all, it’s our dollars that support these toxin dumping products, and the companies that produce them, and the mindset that produces that. We can protest these products, this mindset, simply by NOT PURCHASING these items!

In the next article I will discuss the different options we have to healthy cleaning products for our homes!

It’s great to see that America at least has the site for these sorts of things, it’s really important to know! I myself love to disinfect things (bit of a germaphobe!) But I don’t like the toxins that make up the disinfectant! I know of a few really good alternatives!
